Meeting for February Matthew's Directive in attendance; Kathy, Kelly, Sierrah, Heidi and Pat. Ken, Lisa, Teri and Marin were busy that night. Opened in prayer sharing our lives since last time. Reviewed meeting notes from Jan. 22 meeting, Kathy didn't get them posted. Kelly shared the complications with running Celebrate Recovery at the church. I wrote it on Jan. 22 meeting notes. Between the meetings Sierrah, Ethan, Kathy and Kelly met to share lives and ideas together. Some of those ideas were added to the meeting.
Those who were not able to attend gave input via email. This discussion will be continued on March 4 @ 6:30. I'll put basic points in italics below to share the discussion.
Outreach ideas mentioned last meeting with new ones from other discussions with the Moodys.
a. Start a local mission trip within our community.
Lots of energy was behind this idea. After missions week it was learned this idea is in line with Envision and shows lots of possibility with a need to do serious analyzing to understand how trips are put together. The first step seems to be to find a source who has a need for us to bring a small group of people from the congregation to impact and build relationships with an area in the community. All in the attendees have been on various mission trips to pull personal information to help understand how to build local mission trips. It was also agreed, that's what we are doing, we serve as missionaries work. Heidi mentioned her sister's church does mission work in Everett, WA from her Texas church. The group wondered if she can gather information from her sister why Washington has been targeted and what do they do on their trips. Heidi will contact her. We will keep our eyes and ears open to hear needs that would help build a "mission trip" from the ministries we are serving now. Ken thought a local mission trip to visit a couple tent cities and the local mission would be a wonderful way to connect the congregation with needs of the broken. It's an easy ministry with a lot of diversity. More prayer and discussion will continue at the next meeting on March 4 with this idea. Great excitement seems to be generating here.
b. Create a short Local Missions Week similar to what we did in January, the week past, but in the Spring, Summer, Fall
Discussion from the group agreed to have a local mission week educating the congregation of local ministries that are faith based we are serving would be important to run before a trip is planned since this is so new. Some discussion was around the question could this be done during mission week? Sierrah recalled the sermon from David and it was agreed that "mission fatigue" is a serious issue with a week hearing the many areas people can connect so adding this during the week would not be helpful. It was also mentioned, local missions have greater opportunities to speak at the church than internationals. Question was asked about special speakers on the 5th Sunday. Who decides it? Kathy believes it's the Watering Team meeting which is meeting Feb. 11.
c. Create an ELL for the community welcoming others. Teach language through Scripture
Not much discussion here.
d. Create a Themed Mid-Week Service
There are several examples of a themed mid-week like AWANA, Worship Night, and more. Not more discussion. Teri liked this idea via text.
e. Valentine roses of Easter lilies for a nursing facility given by whole families
Emphasis was shared how precious it is the impact Marin and the kids and other families are with patients who love to see the joy of them. Question about allergies with lilies was asked and agreed they might. Teri liked this via text.
f. Election prayer day or monthly world prayer
Not a lot of discussion. Kathy thought this year's election might be turbulent and this needs to be prayerful in planning something like this. Teri liked this via text.
g. Help focus on invitations not advertising for Easter
Short discussion on inviting people to church
h. Invite family, neighbors to Easter Family Event on March 28
The "invitation" discussion continued with this event run by the Children's ministry. Sierrah is a part of the Children's team and shared how the event will go encouraging us to invite the ministries we are reaching. Maybe taking the church van out to pick some up. Kathy asked about the transition time between groups coming in and waiting for their session to begin is there something for them to do?. Sierrah is checking with Amanda and Jessica. More discussion next month how we can support ministries.
i. Sharing our skills to help teach people necessary basic skills for school or work who cant afford the fees
Short discussion where the idea came from Elijah how we can share with those who do not have the resources skills to help people grow for possible work. Ideas like computer skills, Youtube channel creating, etc.. Heidi mentioned her last church ran an event like this as a work fair (people in the congregation offered skills opening to the church and community) I believe that was correct.
We didn't get to the last agenda item -
Brainstorm how to help break the separation between ministries men/women/children/seniors.
Before we closed Kathy asked if Pat would read a letter from an inmate in Texas who is looking for others to write to. Pat is reading the letter and praying about it. We closed in prayer. If I missed something in notes, please tell me.
Next meeting Wed. March 4 @ 6:30pm we will focus on the topics
Kathy, Pat, Ken and Danny met to discuss and pray for jail ministry. Each person shared where they are going in ministry.
Ken has started pen pal with Prisoner's For Christ out of Woodinville. He is not sure writing is the direction he wants to go. He also shared the desire to get connected with Snohomish County Jail to start supporting the chaplains in visiting face to face inmates. Kathy would provide the connection with the chaplains.
Pat would like to continue visiting in Seattle and will think about writing inmates. She will also continue Angel Tree connecting families.
Danny is supporting one inmate to translate her time in jail in Seattle. He gave praises to the Lord as the inmates charge was reduced from murder 1 to manslaughter. Kathy suggested helping the inmate find other female believers to support her future incarceration. Once she is moved to prison Danny plans to move away from the contact.
Kathy is writing a dozen women in Washington and outside of the state. She's having difficulty visiting in Seattle. The group talked about how we can support this ministry. Ken asked if the church could run a modified Celebrate Recovery.
Kathy asked Kelly about Celebrate Recovery, he said to run the program the church has to sign a commitment to follow the program and not modify it. The program is also volunteer heavy. He believes there might be an alternative. Closed in prayer for people we are connected to. The next meeting will be in March 25 @ 10am.
January 22 meeting Kelly, Kathy, Lisa, Ken, Heidi and Pat were in attendance. The group also shared where their service focus; Pat, Lisa & Ken jail ministry/ Heidi Esther's Place / Kelly children and nursing. as Kelly shared the meaning behind 3-Circles, an evangelism tool. He's going to offer it to the congregation. A sample of this tool can be found on Facebook. The group agreed, it is important for us to remember to come back to God's original design. Most of the group agreed tools to present the Gospel can be distracting but this tool helping us to remember to focus back on God's original design is important.
The rest of the meeting was spent talking about different ways to reach the community around us and connect the church to these ministries. Ideas that were found via google outreach search that seemed interesting; Themed Mid Week Service, Ell Sunday School, Election Day Prayer, Assign a small group geographical are to door knock, Bring roses or lilies to nursing patients, Focus on Invitation not Advertising, Host micro events in the community. These were shown to discuss on February 4 meeting.
Closed in prayer.
