Psalm 119 The Message
1-8 You’re blessed when you stay on course, walking steadily on the road revealed by God.
You’re blessed when you follow his directions, doing your best to find him.
That’s right—you don’t go off on your own; you walk straight along the road he set.
You, God, prescribed the right way to live; now you expect us to live it.
Oh, that my steps might be steady, keeping to the course you set;
Then I’d never have any regrets in comparing my life with your counsel.
I thank you for speaking straight from your heart; I learn the pattern of your righteous ways.
I’m going to do what you tell me to do; don’t ever walk off and leave me.
This meeting was designed to share the findings of Casino Road Kids, Hand in Hand, Esther's Place, Prisoner's for Christ and Prison Fellowship and brainstorm ways we can serve the community.
Sierrah M. shared about Hand in Hand... in a nutshell volunteers are needed for this ministry located in central Everett serving the needs of children who have been removed from their homes yet not in a foster home. They are with the ministry the first 72 hours. Check the "kids" page and follow the link for Hand in Hand. Volunteers are needed for their safe house, homework club, snack meals and more. Right now we don't have a small group going here but Kathy is investigating the overlapping of their homework club with Casino Road Kids at Horizon Elementary as a possible opportunity. Stopping by their office to become familiar with ministry is welcomed. Sierrah and Kathy went to the volunteer meeting, well worth it and highly recommended to you who are interested. check the calendar on the kids page.
Teri shared about Esther's Place women's day shelter and the meeting we had with the leaders. There is a small group from MVCC that purchases plates from the Watering Team and delivers them, Janice and Dawn. The need to mentor the women in a relationship building way is needed. Teri and I are going Sunday night, Sept. 15 at 6 pm to visit their church service, lead by Pastor Judy Hoff, to see how to build relationships with the ladies. Others are welcome to come.
Kelly shared about Casino Kids Road and the meeting with Tyrone, myself and Teri as we got to know this ministry. Kelly and I are going to start attending together. I'm helping with school work and Kelly in bible time singing at Horizon Elementary.
Pat and I shared about jail ministry. Pat has begun going with me do visit an inmate at King County Jail in Seattle. She explained how that works. Danny and Sharon also attend as the inmate they serve needs. I am starting a pen pal program at the church through Prisoner's for Christ. I also shared how Busy Bees have started to make blankets for the family of some of the inmates we are serving. Kelly shared how he has contacted Harmony and Joy to join him to sing at Monroe Prison soon. I told Steve there is a mentor request from an inmate in Monroe to help him build his faith with the Lord from Prisoner's for Christ.
Ken was sick and Lisa babysitting grandkids.
In brainstorming it was often mentioned the need to share the Love of Jesus not only to those in difficult situations but also to the middle class. Exhaustion, defeat, and loneliness in serving without a team person was also discussed. There are many areas to serve leaving a question where to start. Great, unique ideas were popping up. I asked if we can focus the next meeting on those ideas and how to implement them.
1. We, as a church body, will be running Angel Tree sponsoring 15 kids in the area. Keep eyes open for details, we will talk about it at the next meeting.
2. Pen Pal writing group will form on Sat. morning, once a month beginning Sept. 28.
3. Kelly and Kathy are going to Casino Kids Ministry on Monday, Oct. 7 at Horizon Elementary Horizon Homework Club 3:30-4:30 and Kids Bible Club 5:30 - 7:15 . If you wish to come along, contact us.
4. Teri and Kathy are attending Esther's Place worship service Sunday Night Sept. 15 at 6 pm. Men and Women invited.
5. Monthly meetings for the group as a whole will be planned from now on. These meetings will be time of updates from ministries, prayer time and time in the Word addressing many topics to strengthen our walk.
We discussed Wednesdays are good for us to meet until a final decision is made with AWANA. Kelly and I are very excited about this stage in our life and walking it with you.
Hope I represented the meeting notes ok. Blessings - Kathy B.
NEXT MEETING Wed. Oct. 2 at 7 pm
"TANGIBLE" How to give tangible help
This was the first meeting for this new group, Matthew's Directive. As we enter our later years in ministry Kelly and I would like to work together and so this group developed. We have formed a large group, Matthew's Directive, consisting of several small groups who are going out to serve in the community. Kelly and I have seen the dangers of serving alone from spiritual attach to exhaustion and discouragement. We have seen strength in going out to serve in the community as small groups; as a couple, family, friends or believers. The group as a whole is designed to strengthen and support each other.
Matthew 25:31-46 guided my heart and affirmed this new group. This verse challenged me to continue going out and to remember, our focus while serving is to reach "the goats" along with "the sheep".
The study "When Helping Hurts", found on Right Now Media, challenged our eyes and is at the root of this group while it develops. The book was introduced to us by my brother to prepare us as we went to Guatemala, into the villages that faced genocide known as the Ixil people. The teaching strongly focused on our American view of missions compared to a world view. We, as Americans, carry a thought that poverty is an item or food we do not have. To us, poverty means the person might be homeless, jobless or hungry. The world's view of poverty is different. Poverty means the person has a broken relationship with God, family or creation. Thus, this group will focused on what we can build in relationships over what we can give in items. This will be ongoing discussions as we walk this teaching.
This group is also designed to be ever changing in the places we go and yet ever stable in our growth in the Lord to serve Him and relationships with the community.
This meeting was designed to introduce the ministry. The next meeting was set for Sept. 11. In that time period a handful of us will work as small groups investigating ministries the Lord has placed on our hearts and report them at the next meeting. Casino Kids Ministry, Hand in Hand, Esther's Place, Prison Fellowship and Prisoner's For Christ are the ministries we will investigate.
I will be building a website to help with communication among us.
Blessings - Kathy B
